Wonder the country? In search of whatever?

So when I graduate highschool I want to backpack/ hike across the country and see all the amazing **** in the world. Pretty much just go, not have a set plan or anything. This is because I've spent the last 4 years in school watching the clock and waiting for the end of the day and I don't think that's how life should be lived ... Income? Im thinking working odd jobs for a few months and saving it up and moving on, when the money runs low do it again. I wouldnt need much, just for food and equipment repairs. Prob a motel every once in a while. So the question is.. Has anyone done something similar or heard of something like this? If so how did they do it. Any input or coments welcome
