Why didn't the Yankees resign Nick Johnson?

Something's confusing me. He had a decent batting average, a really high OBP and OPS, and a good number of RBIs. He only missed a few games. Everyone gets injured sometimes. He has played over 100 games 4 times in his career. Cashman is an idiot.
