Is going to south east asia alone for 4 months a bad idea?

I'm going to backpack South east asia for 4 months from late april to late august. I will be 23 at the time and I am female. Does anyone have some positive or negative experiences being a women and backpacking alone?( I am also from canada and Caucasian) I have a good head on my shoulders and have been doing extensive research on customs and the places to go ther. I have no one to go with because I don't know anyone who want to go to south east asia.
